Oh. My. Gawd.
You guys. This dip. I'm trying to find a way to communicate how dang good it is, but all my vocabulary is coming up short. This dip take a little bit of preparation but it is just the very best dip you're ever going to experience. Super Bowl Sunday? Beer cheese dip. Opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics? Beer cheese dip. Family game night? Beer cheese dip. You get the picture. And speaking of pictures, I cannot believe I don't have a picture of this glorious appetizer, since our family makes it for every special occasion. And I would totally make it right now for the sake of getting a snapshot, but, as I said before, it's currently January and I'm still on my New Years resolution diet.
Maybe by next winter I'll be able to eat this dip. And fit back into pants that aren't stretchy. We'll see which one happens first.
the recipe
ingredients
- 1-2 loaves (depending on size) French bread, cubed in bite-size pieces.
- 1 cup beer (not lite)
- 16oz. jarred Cheese Whiz (in a glass jar, not the squirty kind)
- 10oz. Cracker Barrel (or some other decent kind) sharp cheddar cheese - grated (it really DOES make a different in this recipe if you buy your block of cheese and grate it at home, instead of just buying a bag of shredded cheese)
- 1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese (this one can be from a container!)
- 1/2 onion - either grated or put through a food processor
- 1Tbs + 1tsp Worcestershire sauce
directions
- Pour your beer in a medium size saucepan on medium heat. Drink the rest, you earned it!
- Add the cheese whiz, grated cheese and blue cheese; stir occasionally until melted.
- Add the onion, about a 1/4 cup at a time, making sure it's not too oniony.
- Add the Worcestershire sauce.
- Put in a bowl with lots and lots of cubed French bread surrounding it.
- Marvel at what a delicious appetizer you just made!
