Cool jobs that people do in our community

The kiddos had a fun week with this unit! We watched several YouTube videos about all different kinds of jobs that grownups have, including doctors, firefighters, police officers, bakers, veterinarians, construction workers, mailmen, garbage men, etc. More importantly, we learned why a community needs each and every one of those jobs - without a street sweeper, our streets would be so dirty! We also talked about the equipment that each job requires and where around the community they would work - some jobs have one place that the grownup works at, and some jobs involve the grownup to travel around the community. All these concepts led to some really really fun sorting and matching activities!

We tried some new concepts this week, including graphing (and comparing our findings), working on our letter sounds, starting to learn our lowercase letters, simple addition, and lots of fine motor games. Nora REALLY enjoyed painting with Q-tips (yay for beginning pencil grip work!) and playing in the rice sensory bin (recipe to follow!). Another huge hit lately has been the alphabet dab-it sheets with bingo dabbers!
